The Cake is a LU

One thing was definitely clear… This was not Acmetropolis. This wasn't even remotely close to his own planet. The world was spinning faster and faster the closer he got to full consciousness. Finally, he could open his eyes. Only to find himself staring up at a bright light. He attempted to cover his face with a hand, only to come face to machine with a foreign object attached to his arm.

"This isn't right. What is this thing? Where am I? Why am I here?" He looked around in a panic, nearly hyperventilating when he realized he was in a box. A clear boxed in room. He glanced about, searching for something that would give him some sort of bearing to his location. His eyes rested on a red dot, far enough away from the box that he could not reach it, but close enough for him to see it. "H-Hello? Hello?! Is anyone out there?! Someone, please help me. Please?"

A mechanical, yet melodious voice chimed forth into the room, the sound echoing about the chamber. "Hello, Test Subject Number 101. I am glad to see you are awake. How are you feeling?" The red dot appeared to come closer to the box, revealing a large white plastic ball, the red dot contained with in a clear screen.

"My name is Ace. Ace Bunny. I am the leader of the Loonatics. I…don't know how I got here, or why I'm here. I don't even know what this blasted machine on my arm is. What's going on?" He blinked and then stared at the dot, awaiting an answer. His hand seemed to move on it's own, reaching for something that was not there. "My weapon. My Guardian Strike Sword.  It's gone. Where did it go?"

"It was taken away to ensure your safety.  All you will need will be the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. " The ball moved to his left, seemingly rotating about him within the box.

He made a face, his antenna like ears drooping at the tips. This didn't not seem to work in his favor at the moment. Wait…did it say portal? As in, the device attached to his hand would create them? Ace was ecstatic, his nervousness disappearing for the time being. "A portal device? So, this…machine creates portals?"

"Yes. The Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device can create inter-spatial portals between two flat planes. You are to test out the device."

Ace looked over the device, frowning a bit. Had he been smarter, what it or she, had said, would make more sense. Oh, what he wouldn't give for Tech to be here right now to explain the details. Wait, his teammates. Where were they? "Whatever I am to call you, where are my friends? Where are my teammates? I don't understand what's going on…"

"I am the Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System. Your friends are within different areas of this facility. You will see them soon." A loud rumbling was heard, the sound coming from Ace himself. He blinked, holding his free hand on his stomach. "I see you are in need of nourishment. Would you care for a slice of cake?"

Ace frowned at the sound that came from his stomach. He was quite famished, the ordeal of awakening in a strange place having drained his energy. "Yes. I am." A small hole opened up in the floor near him. He glanced down it before moving away, a white pedestal rising up through it. On said pedestal was a white plate, a large slice of chocolate cake on it. His eyes widened as he eyed the treat. "Is that for me?"

GLaDOS called out to him, her voice fluctuating between high and low pitches. "Yes. It is for you. Please eat. But I must w-" She could only get out the first half before he began stuffing the cake in his mouth.

He spoke out in between chewing the mouthfuls of cake. "Oh wow, this is such good cake. I've never tasted better." A loud, steady beep was heard as the pedestal suddenly disappeared into the floor. That was never a good thing. Ace heard a creaking coming from above the glass ceiling above him. "What was that?"

GLaDOS answered him in a seemingly happy voice. "That would be the first test activating. Above you now is a spiked ceiling. In thirty seconds, the ceiling will crush you to your death. Your only escape will be the use of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. Please press the green button on your device and begin the test."

Ace was in a panic now. His breathing became rapid as he pressed the green button. It clicked to life, to his relief. He pointed it to the ground, and clicked the trigger. Nothing happened. He tried it again with the same results. "But, but, it's supposed to work! Why isn't it working?!"

GLaDOS chimed in once more. "I was trying to warn you that within the cake was a device that when it was eaten, would render the device useless. You ate the cake before I could warn you. Just as she did."

She? He glanced up, his worse fears confirmed. Impaled on the spikes above the glass ceiling was the lifeless body of Lexi. "Lexi! No! Why?!" He continued to try and activate the device, his desperation growing with each empty click of the trigger. A crack was heard as the spikes broke through the glass ceiling, raining shards down on him. He managed to avoid getting impaled by the shards of glass. "You monster. You killed her!"

"Are you not happy to see your incestuous lover again? I expected you to be ecstatic.  And you have five seconds to live." You could see the panic on his face as he continued to try and activate the gun.

"5... 4... 3... 2... " He screamed out loud, only to have his voice cut off by the spikes impaling his body. "1... Perhaps my countdown was off." GLaDOS' voice seemed to break down, one quite mechanical, the other more humanoid. From a hidden door, a figure emerged. Bugs chewed on a small carrot and snickered. "Ain't I a stinker?"
